S1E8 "A Proper Dad"
Let me refresh your memory: Rose wished to see her father die - hit and run November 7, 1987. The Doctor takes her. She impulsively dashes out and saves her father's life - altering history! "There's a man alive today that wasn't alive before." There's a tear in time. The Reapers appear. Meanwhile Rose and her father bond. Eventually, he realizes that all the world will die from the Reapers if he doesn't step in the way of the crazy, looping car. Rose objects. The Doctor and Pete know it's the only way. So he does - step in the way of the crazy, looping car, that is. He dies. He's a hero - the hero Rose always imagined he was. Closure.
Very sweet. Makes you want to give your dad a hug. Makes you want to buy a bigger, better, more sparkly card for Father's Day. But what if you don't have a dad? What if you've never known a self sacrificing love from dear, dear man? What if you really can't relate at all? I know many people aren't as lucky as Rose or as blessed as I in that department of fathers! BUT, well, that doesn't have to be true. Can I just encourage you to read I John 3?! "See what love the Father has given to us, that we should be called the children of God...By this we know love, that He laid down his life for us." You want a Father who will never let you down, listen to you when your upset, encourage you when your stressed, comfort you when life's tough, hold your hand through the dark days, give you good and perfect gifts, chasten and discipline you when you need direction?! Look no further! Our Father in Heaven has already offered! He's already paid the ultimate cost and proven His love - He laid down his life - so we could be called His children. "Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends" (John 15:13) More than friends, He wants to call us child and heir! Who wouldn't want a Father like that?!
